GRAMMAR: Infinitive and Gerund

Infinitive and Gerund

I expect to be there.
This car is hard to park.
She knows where to find the keys.

Também pode indicar propósito, finalidade:

They went there to buy something = They went there in order to buy something.

Use o infinitivo sem o “to”:

1. após modal verbs (can, could, must, etc.)
2. após os auxiliares do-does-did-will-would
3. após had better, would rather, rather than
4. após as preposições but e except: She did nothing but complain.
5. após os verbos make e let: You make me feel brand new.
Let me help you!

1. Swimming is his favourite sport.
2. He likes swimming.
3. They were prevented from swimming.

É usado também após os verbos go e come indicando atividade física, e na expressão go shopping:

We’re going riding this afternoon.
When are you going shopping? As soon as we get our salary.

Feel See
Observe Notice
Hear Watch

1. Had better (’d better): é melhor, seria melhor - sem o “to” (expressa conselho)

You’d better tell me the truth.
Had she better try again?
You’d better not leave late.

2. Would rather (’d rather): preferir

We’d rather stay home.
Would you rather watch tv?
I’d rather not see her now.

3. Used to: costumava; indica ação habitual no passado:

I used to love you.
Did he use to play tennis as a child?
They didn’t use to go to the movies.

4. Be used to/Be accustomed to/ get used to: estar acostumado a – são sempre seguidas de gerúndio porque o “to”, no caso, é preposição:

We’re used to getting up late.

I can’t help falling in love.

6. To be worth/worthwhile: valer a pena

It was worth listening to him.

Fun. - SONG: We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monáe)

Fun. - We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monáe)

Give me a second, I
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom,
Getting higher than the Empire State.
My lover, she is waiting for me
Just across the bar
My seats been taken by some sunglasses
Asking about a scar and,

I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you're trying to forget
But between the drinks and ____________
The holes in my apologies, ____________
I'm trying hard to take it back

So if by the time
_____________ closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home...

Tonight, we are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than ________________
Tonight, we are young
So let's set the world __________
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

Now I know that I'm not
All that you got

Fun (stylized as fun.) is an American alternative rock band based in New York City that was formed by Nate Ruess, formerly of The Format. After the 2008 breakup of The Format, Ruess formed Fun with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff of Anathallo and Steel Train respectively.[2] Fun has released two albums: their debut Aim and Ignite in 2009 and their latest Some Nights in February 2012.
The band is best known for their hit singles "We Are Young" featuring Janelle Monáe, and "Some Nights". "We Are Young" reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts, becoming the first alternative song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" in 2008. It also peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart. "Some Nights" was released as the album's second single in May 2012, peaking at number 6 on the Hot 100 chart, and becoming their second Top 10 single, as well as their second song to reach platinum status in the USA.

2007–2008: Career beginning and formation

The Format split in February 2008. Immediately afterward Nate Ruess asked Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff to join his new project. Dost had toured with The Format and provided various instrumentation. Ruess met Antonoff after The Format toured with Steel Train.[3] The three began working together in New Jersey within a week. Ruess sang melodies while the other two provided music for them.[4] The first demo song the band recorded was "Benson Hedges," which was made available for free in Spin's September 20, 2008 article on the band.[5] Fun approached Steven McDonald, who produced The Format's album Dog Problems with Ruess, to produce their debut album. McDonald was enthusiastic about the project and stated, "I can’t believe what we’re working on here. This crushes anything I’ve ever done."[4]

Somos Jovens Fun. Revisar tradução
Dê-me um segundo, eu
Eu preciso acertar a minha história
Meus amigos estão no banheiro
Ficando mais doidões que o Empire State.
Meu amor, ela está me esperando
Do outro lado do bar

O bar fechar
Você sentir que está caindo
Eu te carregarei até sua casa...

Esta noite, somos jovens
Vamos colocar fogo no mundo
Podemos queimar com mais luz
Do que o Sol
Esta noite, somos jovens
Vamos colocar fogo no mundo
Podemos queimar com mais luz
Do que o Sol

Vamos colocar fogo no mundo
Podemos queimar com mais luz
Do que o Sol
Esta noite, somos jovens
Vamos colocar fogo no mundo

Posso ouvir o coral
Então, alguém virá
E me carregará até minha casa?

Esta noite, somos jovens
Vamos colocar fogo no mundo
Podemos queimar com mais luz
Do que o Sol
Esta noite, somos jovens
Vamos colocar fogo no mundo
Podemos queimar com mais luz
Do que o Sol

Então, se quando o bar fechar
Você sentir que está caindo
Eu te carregarei até sua casa

A deal with Fontana/Maple Music quickly followed, leading Jepsen into the studio with producer/writer Ryan Stewart.[3]

Joguei um pedido em um poço
Não me pergunte, nunca contarei
Olhei para você enquanto caía,
E agora você está no meu caminho

Eu troco minha alma por um pedido
Moedas e centavos por um beijo
Não estava procurando por isso,
Mas agora você está no meu caminho

Seu olhar se prolongava
Jeans rasgado, pele aparecendo
Noite quente, o vento soprava

Então me ligue, talvez?

Então me ligue, talvez?

Então me ligue, talvez?

Então me ligue, talvez?

Você se demorou na ligação
Eu não demorei para me apaixonar
Você não me deu nada,

Jeans rasgado, pele aparecendo
Noite quente, o vento soprava

Então me ligue, talvez?

Ei, acabei de te conhecer,
